Claire Smith has built a strong reputation as an involved and informed leader in the Global Conventions and Tourism Industry over the last 25 years.
As the Vice President, Sales & Marketing at the Vancouver Convention Centre, Claire is responsible for strategic business development, leading and directing the sales, marketing team and communication teams as well as positioning the facility in the global marketplace.
Prior to the Convention Centre, Claire ran her own consulting firm where she provided business development strategies, revenue generation, process improvement and training for convention venues, tourism organizations, associations and event management companies.
Claire has worked with organizations around the world, including Meeting Professionals International (MPI), based in Dallas Texas, as their VP, Marketplace Performance where she helped transform their advertising and sponsorship sales.
Earlier in her career, Claire developed and managed a wide range of international meetings and exhibitions including Child Health, Sports Medicine and Independence, a global conference on disability attracting over 3000 delegates.
Claire is a recognized expert in her field been a featured speaker and session facilitator at meeting industry conferences in North America, Europe and Asia. She actively participates in various international associations. She serves as Chair Elect of the Professional Convention Management Association and sits on the Advisory Boards for Destination Canada’s Business Events Council and The Meetings Industry Fund.
Claire volunteers her time to mentor young women in the Convention Industry and in the local business community.
